The “showcase” rental price in Dubai is like the price of an airfare without baggage: it seems cheap, but in the end you pay 2–3 times more. Here are 5 specific traps that will eat up your 2,000 AED (about 54,000 ₽ or $550), and how to avoid them.
Trap No. 1: “Unlimited” mileage is not unlimited.
How it works: You can see the “Unlimited Mileage” on the website. But the contract states in small print: “The unlimited limit applies only to Economy category vehicles, for rentals of 7 days or more. For rentals from 1-3 days, there is a limit of 250 km/day.”
Real calculation:
– Rent for 3 days at 150 AED/day = 450 AED
– You have driven 900 km (Dubai —Abu Dhabi —Dubai —Hatta Mountains = 300 km)
Exceeded limit: 900 – 750 (250×3) = 150 km ×2 AED/km = 300 AED
How to bypass: Always ask: “What is the exact mileage limit for my rental period?” Request written confirmation via WhatsApp/email. If you rent for at least 5 days, almost all companies offer a real unlimited plan.
Trap No. 2: Salik (toll roads) — double descent
How it works: In Dubai, there are 8 Salik toll points (gates on main highways). The toll is 4 AED per gate. It is automatically deducted from the transponder linked to the vehicle.
Trap: The rental company gives you a car with a pre‑paid Salik (for example, 50 AED on the account). You pass through 10 barriers in a day (40 AED), and upon return, you are issued a bill:

Trap No. 3: Fuel — “Full Tank” vs “Full Tank”
How it works: You take the car with a full tank. You’re told: “Return it with a full tank.” You refuel for 30 AED at a gas station 2 km from the return office. Everything seems fair.
Trap: When you return the car, the manager looks at the gauge and says: “You have 1/8 less than you should.” You didn’t fill up to the top (to a full tank), but only to “almost full.” The following will be deducted from your account:
– The cost of the missing fuel (calculated using the formula: full tank 50 L × 2.9 AED/L = 145 AED)
– A service fee for underfilling (50 AED)
Result: You lost 200 AED because you didn’t top up 3 liters (9 AED).
How to bypass: Request refueling in the presence of a manager or take a photo of the fuel gauge immediately after refueling (with a receipt). It’s best to refuel at an ENOC station near the airport — there are no queues there.
Trap No. 4: Fines — “sudden” 600 AED for parking
How it works: You parked in a “gray” zone, paid for 2 hours via the app, but forgot to extend the time. You came back after 2 hours and 10 minutes. The camera recorded it. The fine is 200 AED.
Trap: The rental company issues you a fine + a fee for processing the fine (50–100 AED) + late payment penalties (if the fine arrived after you left the country and you didn’t pay it).
Real case: The client received a parking fine for 200 AED. The company charged them 750 AED (fine + 150 AED for processing + 400 AED for “administrative costs” related to identifying the violation).

Checklist before signing the contract (take photos of everything!)
– Fuel gauge (photo) and odometer.
– Interior and trunk — so you won’t be charged for a “scratch” that wasn’t there.
– Insurance — request “Full Coverage with Zero Excess” (in 2026, it’s no longer 50 AED/day, but 30 AED, but with no deductible — otherwise, you’ll pay 2,000 AED for any scratch).
