How much does it cost to travel on toll roads in Dubai?

In Dubai, payment for the use of toll highways is regulated through the Salik system, which is an automated toll collection system. Instead of the usual toll booths, Salik uses radio frequency tags (RFID), which are placed on the windshields of vehicles.

The principle of Salik operation:

When a car equipped with a Salik tag passes through the control area, the system automatically deducts the amount corresponding to the fare from the previously replenished balance. In case of insufficient funds in the account, the owner of the vehicle is fined.

The amount of payment:

Typical fare: 4 dirhams of the United Arab Emirates (equivalent to approximately 1.1 USD) for each crossing of the Salik control zone.

Location of Salik points:

Salik control zones are located on strategically important sections of Dubai’s highways and bridges, including:

– Sheikh Zayed Highway

– Al Maktoum Bridge

– Al-Garhoud Bridge

– Al-Shindaga Tunnel

– Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Highway

Payment methods:

Purchase of the Salik tag: The Salik tag can be purchased at gas stations, at the offices of the RTA (Dubai Traffic Authority), as well as online.

Replenishment of the balance: It is possible to replenish the Salik account through online services, the Salik mobile application, via SMS messages or at specialized replenishment points.

Penalties:

Driving through the Salik control area without a tag or if there is insufficient balance in the account entails a fine. The amount of the fine may vary, but it usually amounts to about 100 dirhams per primary violation.
