Salik operates on the basis of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. This tag, purchased by drivers when registering in the system, contains a unique vehicle identifier.

This can be done at any RTA (Dubai Roads and Transport Authority) customer service center, as well as through the Salik online portal or mobile app. After registration, the user’s account is blocked with an amount equivalent to the cost of a certain number of trips. Fines and consequences of non-payment

The amount of the fine increases with repeated violations. In the event of prolonged non-payment, the RTA may take more serious measures, including the blocking of vehicle registration.
