Speeding fines in Dubai: everything you need to know

Dubai, known for its splendor and modern motorways, requires strict compliance with traffic regulations, especially regarding speed limits. Violating the speed limit in the UAE is a serious offense that entails substantial fines and other adverse consequences.

Current speed limits in the UAE: a brief overview

In Dubai and other emirates, the established speed limits vary depending on the type of highway and area. On high–speed highways, the maximum permissible speed is usually 100-120 km/ h, within the city – 60-80 km/ h, and in residential areas – 40 km/ h. It is necessary to carefully monitor the road signs indicating the speed limit, as it may change on different sections of the road.

The amount of fines for speeding

The amount of the fine is determined by the degree to which the speed limit is exceeded. Penalties can range from 300 to 3000 dirhams UAE (AED). In addition, up to 12 penalty points can be awarded for serious offenses, which can lead to temporary suspension of a driver’s license. Exceeding the speed limit by more than 80 km/h may also lead to the confiscation of the vehicle.

What should I do if I receive a fine?

If you are stopped by police officers and given a ticket for speeding, it is important to maintain composure and politeness. You have the right to appeal the fine within the prescribed time frame if you are sure that it is unjustified. You can pay the fine online through the traffic police website, mobile application or directly at the police station. Late payment of a fine may lead to an increase in its amount and other legal problems.
