Renting a car in Dubai may seem like an attractive option for exploring the city, but like any other country, there are hidden fees that you should be aware of.
1. Insurance
Basic insurance is usually included in the rental price, but it often has a high deductible. This means that in the event of an accident, you will have to pay a certain amount out of your own pocket. Additional insurance that covers the deductible can significantly increase the rental price. It is also worth checking whether the insurance covers damage to tires and glass.
2. Over-mileage fees
Many companies set limits on daily or weekly mileage. Exceeding these limits will result in an additional fee for each kilometer. Make sure to check the specific limits for your account.
3. Parking fees and toll roads
There are many paid parking lots and toll roads (Salik) in Dubai. These costs are not included in the rental price and are the responsibility of the renter. Check with the rental company to see if they provide a Salik device and how tolls are charged.
4. Additional drivers
If you plan to share driving with someone else, make sure that this driver is listed in the rental agreement. Otherwise, in the event of an accident, the insurance may not be valid.
5. Fines
Fines for traffic violations will also fall on your shoulders. Make sure you are aware of the parking rules and speed limits in Dubai.
6. Deposit
When renting a car, a deposit is usually required. Find out how it is returned and how long it takes to get the money back.
7. Car wash fee
Some companies may charge a car wash fee when returning a car, even if it is not heavily soiled.
Carefully review the rental agreement and ask all your questions before signing. This will help you avoid unpleasant surprises and additional expenses.
