Dubai is one of the most electric vehicles‑friendly cities in the region, and a Tesla owner here won’t have to spend more time looking for a charging point than for a parking spot. Here are some practical tips on how and where to charge a rented Tesla in Dubai.
The proprietary Supercharger network covers key locations: Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, the business districts of DIFC and Sheikh Zayed Road. The stations deliver up to 250 kW of power: half an hour at the terminal and the range is replenished by hundreds of kilometers. Through the Tesla app, you can see where there is an available connector, so it’s convenient to plan your route in advance.
The DEWA state network is the second most important option. Charging stations are located near shopping centres, hotels and parking lots throughout the city. Access requires registration in the DEWA app or a SIM card; it’s easier for tourists to activate a one‑time session via a QR code at the station. The power is usually moderate — 11–22 kW, so this is an option for nighttime or long‑term parking.
Dubai’s rental companies provide cars with a carrier card or instructions via an app. Check the contract terms: some companies require you to return the car with a charge of at least 20%, while others include electricity in the tariff. Charge at your carrier’s stations — this will help you avoid unnecessary charges.
Home charging at the DEWA tariff costs approximately 0.2–0.4 dirhams per kWh. At public charging stations, it costs between 0.5 and 1.2 dirhams; at Superchargers, it’s about 0.9–1.5. A full charge for a Model 3 rarely exceeds 60–90 dirhams. For comparison: the same journey using gasoline is significantly more expensive.
